You are Ukraine

I sense, that you’re crying,
that you are in pain.
Like kids in the subway
You Are Ukraine

And I think you too have noticed
how black his eyes can get.
The darkness even deeper
behind his numbing threats.

Through eyes like frosted windows
you see those joyless halls.
It’s years since genuine laugther
echoed among those walls.

I sense, that you’re crying,
that you are in pain.
Like families in basements
You Are Ukraine

The little Vlad, his parents child,
lies lifeless on the floor.
The goofy sounds of joy and play
are heard in here no more.

Maybe this house is shrinking,
his soul is feeling tight.
But now he’s got a palace!
The kind that might can buy.

I sense, that you’re crying,
that you are in pain.
Like dads leaving daughters
You Are Ukraine

You feel the waves of darkness,
the appetite for hate.
But you have seen it all before
and you are not afraid.

You know, the fight is over,
you know, that darkness failed.
Between your everlasting arms
love won and hope prevailed.

Still, I sense that you’re crying,
that you are in pain
You’re there in Kyiv with them
You Are Ukraine
